Arnold D. Stevens

Aug. 17, 1932 June 4, 2003

Arnold D. Stevens of Sonora died June 4 at a Manteca hospital. He was 70.

He was born in Modesto and lived there for 14 years. He moved to Sonora in 1995.

Mr. Stevens worked as a truck driver for Prime Inc. in Missouri for four years and drove a truck for 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Wynema Stevens of Sonora; sons, Vincent Stevens of San Diego, Dennis Morgan and Lennie Morgan, both of Salida; daughters, Katrina Blackmore of Sonora, Vickie Owens of Sonora, Michelle Gillette of Newman, Debbie Atkinson of Manteca, Vicky Dicus of Missouri, and Kim Stevens; a brother, Frank Stevens of Illinois; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine. Remembrances can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250-0301. The Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Modesto is handling arrangements.

Walter

L. Anderson

Jan. 19, 1922 June 6, 2003

A former Sonora businessman, Walter L. Anderson of Oakdale, died June 6 at his residence. He was 81.

He was born in Fresno. He was a Marine veteran and served in World War II from 1942-46. He was very proud of being a veteran. He was the owner and bartender of the Brass Rail bar for 25 years in Sonora. He loved Sonora, a public guardian from social services said. He lived in Oakdale for two years.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife and brother.

No services will be held at his request. He will be buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine. Donations can be made to National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 N. West 9th Ave., Miami, FL, 33136. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

John Kenneth 'Obie' O'Brien

March 7, 1926 June 21, 2003

A former Sonora resident, John Kenneth "Obie" O'Brien, died Saturday at a Sacramento hospital. He was 77.

He was born in Stockton and moved to Sonora as a young boy. He graduated from Sonora Elementary and was in the class of 1943 at Sonora High School. He moved to Sacramento, where he lived since 1955. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator building dams, highways and other structures for 35 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners.

His family said he was a motorcycle enthusiast who was full of life and loved his grandchildren and family.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruby O'Brien of Sacramento; his son, Danny O'Brien and wife, Chris, of El Dorado Hills; a daughter, Catherine O'Brien of Sacramento; a brother, Wilbur O'Brien of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Barbara Magni of Sonora; three grandchildren, Sean O'Brien of Fort Lewis, Wash., Stephanie O'Brien of El Dorado Hills, and Erin Barmby, a student, of Washington, D.C.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Mountain Shadow Cemetery. A reception will follow at Veteran's Hall in Sonora. Donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Paul Lloyd Greenwood

Nov. 18, 1916 June 25, 2003

Paul Lloyd Greenwood of Sonora died Wednesday at his residence. He was 86.

He was born in Kansas. He lived in Sonora for the past 18 years. He worked as a batch plant operator for a cement company for 20 years. He loved fishing, cooking and gardening, his family said.

Mr. Greenwood is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Tom Burger of Sonora and Janice and Roy Beech of Ovett, Miss.; a sister, Pearl DuBoise of Modesto; a sister-in-law, Marge Greenwood of Auburn; five grandchildren, Cyndie Robinson, Lisa James, Jennifer Stanberry, all of Mississippi, Paul Burger of Simi Valley, and Kim Whittington of Atascadero; five great-grandchildren, Tommy James, Kim McRee, Justin Robinson and Cole Stanberry, all of Mississippi, and Hali Whittington of Atascadero; and a great great-grandchild, Madeline McRee of Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille.

No services will be held at his request. Donations can be made to the Humane Society of Tuolumne County, P.O. Box 830, Jamestown, CA 95327. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

GEORGE Nadine George, 74, a former Arnold resident, died Tuesday at her residence in Dillon Beach, Marin County. Neptune Society of Northern California is handling arrangements.
