Elaine Grace Ruth Roberts

Sept. 12, 1922 June 22, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Elaine Grace Ruth Roberts died Sunday at her residence. She was 80.

She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to Dave and Ruth Lundberg. She moved from St. Paul when she was 20 years old and lived in Los Angeles for 10 years. She worked at Technicolor and enjoyed the "Hollywood scene," her family said. They said she dated Mel Torme before marrying Bob Roberts. Her family said they were a handsome, charming and adventurous couple.

They moved from Los Angeles to Tuolumne County in 1952. They built their home above Sullivan's Creek and Elsie's Swimming Hole. She loved the beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills and of Sonora, her family said. The "Creek House" was her home for the next 50 years.

She and eight of her friends formed a club, "P.H.H.P," which has existed for more than 40 years. All of her friends were her "pockets of gold" and were her true treasures of life, her family said.

She sang and played the piano. During the last 20 years, she volunteered at the Tuolumne County Senior Center and played piano with the Foothills Senior Band.

She was a beautiful wife, a loving and strong mother and a feisty, "tell it like it is" friend, her family said.
