Thomas E. Coleman, a longtime resident of Sonora, died April 29 at a Sonora hospital. He was 89.
He was born in Nacona, Texas, and moved to Sonora in 1962. He lived in Sonora for 41 years. Employed at Caltrans, he was a mechanic for 15 years.
A four-year U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Coleman was a member of the Sonora Baptist Church, past master of Eastbelt Tuolumne Lodge No. 8, member of the Stockton Scottish Rite, American Legion, National Rifle Association and the Gideon Society. He owned Tom's Saw Shop in Sonora. He and his wife, Robbie, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Coleman of Sonora; a son, Hal Coleman of Alameda; three sisters, Stella Petrie of Snelling, Marie Dennis of Atwater, Ernie Joe Cabezut of Merced; three granddaughters, Amy Gorder of Elk Grove, Gena Grijalva of Temecula, and Kelly VanWay of Temecula; two grandsons, Patrick Coleman of Modesto, and Russell Coleman of San Diego; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Sonora Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park, Merced. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Alma M. Jeffries of Twain Harte died May 6 at her residence after a long illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Jeffries was a real estate broker for 25 years for Gardner Realty in Berkeley before moving with her family to Twain Harte in 1992.
She enjoyed Black Oak Casino, playing slots and The New York Times crossword puzzle. Mrs. Jeffries had a strong ability to quote Longfellow and Shakespeare, and her favorite poem was "Invictus" by William Ernest Henry. She was known for her generosity and was a doting grandmother.
She is survived by her two daughters and three sons-in-law, Camille and Randall Miller of Twain Harte, Kim and Scott Coppler of Cedar Ridge, and Vincent Abrahamson of Piedmont; two granddaughters, Jennifer Halpern of Alameda, and Mary Miller of Twain Harte; two grandsons, Jeff Miller of Sonora, and Alex Miller of Twain Harte; two nieces, Patty Barrett of Texas, and Judy Rae of Los Angeles; a nephew, John Kie of Oregon; and a best friend, Marjorie Joseph of Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1976 and her daughter Pamela in 1991.
