Sean Thomas Hamm

Sean Thomas Hamm, 11-month-old son of Tom and Debbie Hamm of Elk Grove, died March 23, 2003, at a San Francisco hospital.

Sean was born in Sacramento and had lived in Elk Grove since infancy. His father grew up in Greeley Hill and had lived in Sonora for a few years before moving to Elk Grove.

In addition to his parents, Sean is survived by grandparents, Richard and Jan Himenes of Rancho Cordova, Clinton and Pat Hamm of Groveland; great-grandparents Harold and Voncile Calhoun of Des Arc, Ark., and Manuel Himenes of Fair Oaks; three aunts and uncles, Jen and Max Guthzeit of Placerville, Jennifer and Tim Kott of Rockland and Kelly and Marv Griffin of Oakdale, three cousins, Brittany Guthzeit of Placerville, Lindsey Hamm and Christina Griffin, both of Oakdale; and numerous other family members.

A funeral service was to be held yesterday at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks. Mount Vernon Mortuary handled arrangements.

Jean E. Sims

Jean E. Sims, 95, of San Andreas died March 8 in San Andreas.

She was born in Victor, Mont., to William and Nora (Campbell) Crego. Her parents had both emigrated by wagon train from Missouri to Montana. She had lived in San Andreas this past year.

She married Howard Haller in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1925, and the couple had two sons, Richard and Robert. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.

A resident of Oakland and the East Bay for more than 65 years, she was a past worthy matron of Oakland Lake Merritt Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a grand deputy for the worthy grand matron of California, 1976-77. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Oakland Temple and a mother adviser for Rainbow Girls, Mary E. Partridge Assembly.

She worked as a bookkeeper before she married her second husband, Bill Sims. They were married 32 years before he preceded her in death in 1977.

In 1984 she moved to Spokane, Wash., to live with her widowed sister, Clara, before returning to the Bay Area and moving to Pleasant Hill in 1990 to be near her family.

Family members said she was a loving, compassionate person who was considerate of other people's feelings. She enjoyed the Oakland A's baseball team, knitting, crocheting, volunteering for charity, book clubs and book reviews.

Mrs. Sims is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Green of Mountain Ranch; three daughters-in-law, Jeanne Haller, Joan Haller and Molly Haller; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was to be held at 2 p.m. yesterday at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital, San Andreas. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mary Miller

Mary Miller, 81, of Sonora died Friday at a Sonora care home.

Mrs. Miller was born in Boise, Idaho, and had lived in Jamestown for 20 years, and in Sonora for the past year.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam B. Miller, on Feb. 4, 2002.

Mrs. Miller is survived by a son, Ed Bottani of Juneau, Alaska; two sisters, Elizabeth Grant of Payson, Ariz., and Frances Van Valhenberg of Salem, Ore.

No service is planned. Burial will be private. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

JONES Alonzo Phillip Jones, 91, of Sonora died Friday at a Livermore veterans hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
