Carl G. Buckingham, 85, of Twain Harte died Monday at a Sonora hospital.
Mr. Buckingham was born in Alameda to Winifred and Frank Buckingham, and had lived in Twain Harte for the past 26 years.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a supervisor at the Naval Air Rework Facility, Naval Air Station Alameda, where he was employed for 35 years. When he retired, he moved to Twain Harte.
He loved baseball and coached in the Hayward West National Little League, Diamond League and Babe Ruth for many years. His family said for many of the youths who were on his teams, he was a father figure they did not have. Often, he would buy them equipment they needed but could not afford.
He enjoyed playing golf, living in the mountains and his dogs, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Twain Harte. His family said they and his friends will miss his Irish wit, his perseverance, quiet courage and his love.
Mr. Buckingham is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Buckingham, of Twain Harte; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and James Helm of Olathe, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Buckingham of Twain Harte; six grandchildren, Jenny, Josh, Stephanie and Paula of Kansas and Matt and Sara of California; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, John and Charles Buckingham, and a sister, Edna Catuzzo.
A Mass was celebrated Friday at All Saints Catholic Church. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Gregory Martin Maffucci

Gregory Martin Maffucci, 57, of Tuolumne died Thursday at a Sonora hospital after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Maffucci was born in Los Angeles and had lived in Tuolumne for the past 18 years.
His family said he had owned several antique shops in the Santa Cruz area and loved antiques.
In addition to being artistic, his family said, he was very intelligent and very involved in family history.
Mr. Maffucci is survived by his mother, Iris Maffucci of Tuolumne; six children; three sisters, Heather Maffucci of Sonora, Michael Montoya of Twain Harte and Iris Taylor of Tuolumne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Maffucci, and a sister, Celeste Maffucci.
A private burial is planned at Carter's Cemetery in Tuolumne. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
DERRINGER Gladys May Derringer, 77, of Angels Camp died Thursday at a San Andreas hospital. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. tomorrow followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Angels Memorial Chapel.
KUYKENDALL Rita Kuykendall, 83, of Sonora died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.
MALTBIE Theo Wesley Maltbie, 70, of Coulterville died Thursday at his home. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held at noon Wednesday at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. A graveside service will follow, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greeley Hill Baptist Church.
GRAEF Stanley Graef, 48, of Sonora died Saturday at his home after a long illness. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
DARLING Fritzi Darling, 95, of Sonora died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
GRANGER Mari Granger, 36, of Twain Harte died Sunday at a Sonora hospital, after a battle with cancer. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
