Helen Elizabeth (Kimble) Barnett, 93, of Sonora died Saturday at a Sonora hospital.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Saint Joseph, Mo., and lived in the Bay Area for many years, first in San Francisco and then Pacifica, before settling in Half Moon Bay. She lived there for 30 years before moving to Sonora, where she lived for the past five years.
She served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as an office worker. After the war she worked various jobs, before becoming a bookkeeper for the San Mateo County Traffic Division. She worked there for more than 20 years before she retired in 1975.
When she lived in Half Moon Bay, she often took walks with her dogs along the beach. Her family said she loved dogs and was skilled at trap shooting. She also had been a Minnesota State Fencing Champion in the 1930s.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Twain Harte.
Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dean "Barney" Barnett, in 2001.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Janet Barnett of Sonora, and three grandchildren, Aaron Barnett of San Francisco, Emily Barnett of Modesto and David Barnett of Sonora.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Sonora.
DePETRO Cecilia DePetro, 88, of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
