Lime Kiln fire nearly contained

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat

A vehicle and vegetation fire on Lime Kiln Road south of Sonora prompted the evacuation of one home and closed a road, but firefighters are nearing full containment.

One home was evacuated on Jacobs Road, which is now closed, after a vehicle fire spread to burn about 3 acres.

Forward progress was stopped just before 4 p.m., within an hour of the fire's report, and the fire was 80 percent contained as of 4:15 p.m., according to Cal Fire officer Chris Goodnight, who served as incident commander.

A Nissan Maxima burned, but no injuries were reported. The owner was on scene and spoke with law enforcement.

No other information was available.
