Election filings spike in last days

The race for three Tuolumne Utilities District Board of Directors seats will involve a crowded field in what otherwise looks to be a relatively slow November election in Tuolumne County.

A surge of candidates submitted paperwork in the days before Wednesday's deadline, putting the total candidates for the county's largest water and sewer provider's board at 11.

TUD will be one of seven special districts that will appear on ballots in Tuolumne County in the November election. The county Assessor-Recorder seat will also feature a two-candidate race.

TUD has three of its five board seats up in November. One of those seats is a two-year term, with Jerry Morrow, David Evans, Ron Kopf, Michael Cummings and Darrell Ketner all vying for it.

The remaining seats hold full, four-year terms. Incumbent Delbert Rotelli faces challengers and former fellow directors Jim Grinnell and Ron Ringen, as well as Patrick Congdon, David Harris and David Axelrod for those seats.

Board members Mike Sarno and Ruanne Mikkelson are not seeking another term.

Elsewhere in the county, seats on the Big Oak Flat/Groveland, Sonora, Twain Harte Long Barn Union, Sonora Union High and SummervilleUnion High school district boards will also go to the ballot in November.
