Midpines homes threatened by fire

A fire in Mariposa County prompted evacuations of some Midpines homes Tuesday afternoon.

Residents of about 10 homes near Highway 140 and Colorado Road in Midpines were told to leave around 3 p.m., according to the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office.

Cal Fire said the fire had burned 3 acres of heavy timber and threatened power lines and structures near the town post office.

However, a dispatcher said some air resources that were going to be called were instead asked to hold, an indicator that firefighters were getting a handle on the blaze as of about 3:15 p.m.

The fire did pull four aircraft, 14 engines and a couple of hand crews, bulldozers and chief officers.

The fire's cause was unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.
