The driver of a silver convertible Porsche led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon through part of Tuolumne County.

The pursuit - reaching speeds up to 90 mph - started about 8:45 a.m. at Soulsbyville Road and ended at Hunts Road in Soulsbyville.

According to a CHP summary of the incident, the Porsche was spotted zipping down Highway 108 by CHP Officer Michael McDaniel as McDaniel was stopped in a patrol car to monitor traffic.

Noticing the car matched the description of a Porsche involved in a Wednesday chase by the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office, McDaniel began to pursue the car.

The Porsche, its top down, exited 108 at Soulsbyville Road and pulled into a gas station. The driver accelerated through the parking lot, nearly hitting some people, and took off heading south on Soulsbyville Road, the CHP report said.

The Porsche turned east on Highway 108, accelerated to about 90 mph, passed two cars on a solid-yellow lane stripe, raced up to Twain Harte Drive, exited and turned onto Hunts Road heading west.

McDaniel at that point lost track of the car.

Based on a description of the car - a silver Porsche with paper dealership plates - CHP officers in Modesto were able to track the car to its owner.

The driver, identified as Tracy S. McCarroll, 41, of Modesto, was arrested by CHP officers as he pulled into the driveway of his home.

McCarroll was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail Thursday night on felony charge of evading arrest and also a felony warrant. Arrest records show he was charged in June with assaulting a spouse or cohabitant.

As of this morning, he was held on a bail of $50,000.
