The re-designed concrete bleacher project for Summerville High School is expected to be approved today at a special board meeting announced late Monday.
The concrete bleachers are part of the district's $4 million stadium project, the first with its bond money from 2012's $8 million Measure H.
The project will replace the football field and track, renovate the snack shack and replace the bleachers, which were redesigned from aluminum to concrete at the last minute to save money.
The board today is expected to accept a guaranteed maximum price of $935,825 for the bleachers from Robert E. Boyer Construction, of Twain Harte, who has the lead on the rest of the stadium projects and recommended the re-design.
The re-design was just approved by the state on Thursday, according to Superintendent Robert Griffith. He commended Boyer and others on the project for their quick work.
The bleacher price is about $300,000 less than the aluminum bleachers would have been, Boyer estimated.
Work is already underway on the rest of the project - field, track and snack shack - at a $3.1 million maximum price. Those plans were approved in April.
Despite earlier concerns about construction delays from the redesign, no construction work been delayed so far, Griffith said Wednesday.
"It's nice. We've been on that same schedule since mid-Spring," he said. "Early on, things got pushed back a lot."
The planning and approval process delayed construction from beginning earlier in the season, so fall's football season is going to be impacted.
Homecoming was pushed back from the third football game, Oct. 3, to the last, Nov. 7, in case work isn't done in time. The first two home games have already been scheduled away.
