A brief summer storm brought lightning and light rain to the foothills Tuesday night.

The storm was the result of monsoonal moisture creeping into the Sierra, which is expected to weaken by this afternoon.

There is a 20 percent chance of lightning through midday today in Sonora, Groveland, Copperopolis and Angels Camp, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms in the High Sierra could persist through Thursday.

Last night, weather watchers at Phoenix Lake reported 0.15 inch of rain. At Sonora Meadows, a trace was detected. However, no measurable rain was reported in Sonora, Twain Harte or Pinecrest.

Cloud-to-ground lightning sparked two small fires near Standard, according to Cal Fire. Both were only about 10-by-10-foot spots found and easily extinguished in the early morning.
