TUD: Water expert to visit

By Alex MacLean / The Union Democrat

There will be two opportunities in Tuolumne County early next week for the public to hear from the leader of a statewide association that represents 450 California water agencies, Tuolumne Utilities District announced Thursday.

Tim Quinn, executive director of the Association of California Water Agencies, will be in town to meet with TUD and other regional water agencies to discuss drought-related issues affecting communities in the Sierra foothills.

Quinn is also scheduled to attend TUD committee meetings on Monday and Tuesday that will be open to the public.

"We're pleased he's setting aside some time for TUD and the county to hear about our water concerns and also to tell us about what he's been hearing from other agencies throughout the state," said district spokeswoman Lisa Westbrook.

Quinn is scheduled to be at a meeting of the district's Intergovernmental-Public Relations Committee at 1 p.m. Monday in the TUD board room. The meeting will cover a number of issues related to the current drought, including groundwater challenges, the state Legislature's water bond and Gov. Jerry Brown's five-year Water Action Plan.

Representatives from other water districts in Tuolumne, Calaveras and Amador counties have also been invited to attend.

PUBLIC MEETINGS: Tuolumne Utilities District with Tim Quinn, 1 p.m., Monday, TUD board room, at 18885 Nugget Blvd., Sonora; and 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Pinecrest Reservoir, Fir Group Picnic Area next to amphitheater, Pinecrest.
