A fire in Mountain Ranch killed one person Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported about 7:45 a.m. at a house on the 8500 block of Cave City Road.

About half of the residence was engulfed in flame when firefighters arrived, according to a Cal Fire report.

Cal Fire said one person died in the blaze. There were no other reported injuries or deaths.

The Calaveras County Coroner's Office was waiting for family members to confirm the victim's identity before releasing further information Thursday afternoon.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $250,000.

Cal Fire sent four engines, a battalion chief, hand crew and fire prevention officer to battle the blaze. Fire engines and water tenders also responded from fire protection districts in San Andreas and Mokelumne Hill.

Firefighters left the scene about 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cal Fire said.
