Quail Hollow fire under investigation

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire Tuesday morning that burned a Sonora apartment building and displaced 15 residents, three of whom were children.

The fire was reported at 9:46 a.m. at Quail Hollow Apartments on Chukar Circle.

It burned all four units in the building.

Witnesses and fire and law enforcement officials said it appeared to have started on a couch in a unit where a party had occurred the night before.

Nathan Phillips, a neighborhood resident, spotted the fire about 9:40 a.m.

He said he was outside and smelled something burning. He ran to the back of the burning unit, Unit A, where he was met with billowing smoke.

"I saw a couch on fire!" he said.

He told a woman to call 911 and broke a fire-extinguisher box and tried to extinguish the fire. The extinguisher was no match for the flames and he began yelling for the residents to get out of the building.
