Fire at Quail Hollow contained

A residential fire this morning burned one building at Quail Hollow Apartments on Chukar Circle in Sonora.

The fire was reported at 9:46 a.m. and burned all four units in the building.

Tenants in nearby apartments were allowed to return to their homes about 12:30 p.m.

Three firefighters were injured. Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit member Aquieno Lacour, 35, of Riverbank, rolled his ankle when he stepped into a utility hole while pulling hose.

Two firefighters suffered from exhaustion. One was given IV fluids, the other didn't require treatment.

Fifteen residents, three of which are children, were displaced by the fire.

The fire was contained about 11 a.m. but not controlled, according to Cal Fire Capt. Mike Spear. He expected mop-up work to last four to six hours.

Four Cal Fire units, two Cal Fire-Tuolumne County Fire Department units, a Sonora City Fire Department engine and Twain Harte and Columbia fire units responded to the blaze.

The cause was not immediately known.
