The herd grew this year at the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee.

This year's fair, with a theme of "Fun for the Whole Herd," roped in 38,000 to 40,000 people. The four-day event was held May 15 to 18 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp.

"Preliminary numbers show that we are up from last year," said Laurie Giannini, fair manager.

Saturday's attendance alone was up 4,000 people over 2013, she said.

This year's fair brought the return of a professional rodeo and other entertainment, including musical tributes to Journey and Johnny Cash.

Sabrina Perez, of Valley Springs, was crowned Miss Calaveras, and Samantha Cobb, of Murphys, won the Saddle Queen competition.

Casey Nash, a 20-year-old Vallecito resident, won this year's International Frog Jump Finals. His frog, Green Cough, leapt a total of 19 feet, 8 inches to claim the top spot.
