Sunny weekend weather forecast

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat /

Clear skies and warmer temperatures are forecast for this Memorial Day weekend, bringing open mountain passes and dry campsites, as well as higher fire dangers.

The National Weather Service expects high temperatures of 87 today and Saturday, 91 on Sunday and 88 on Monday in the foothill communities of Sonora and Angels Camp.

Cooler temperatures will prevail in the high country. Pinecrest's daily high temperatures are forecast at 77 Saturday, 81 Sunday and 79 Monday. Overnight lows are expected at 43, 43 and 41, respectively. Arnold's forecast is nearly identical.

Sonora, Ebbetts and Tioga highway passes have all reopened after closing temporarily for a late spring storm this week, according to Caltrans and the National Park Service.

Those planning to camp out this weekend should remember to get a campfire permit on their way out. The permits are required to build a fire anywhere outside of a state-developed campground or picnic area.
