Meeting Monday on Moccasin post office

By Mike Morris, The Union Democrat

A public meeting has been set for next week to discuss the closure of the Moccasin Post Office.

The meeting will start at 5 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Moccasin Administration Building.

The City of San Francisco owns the building and land that housed the post office. The lease ended April 1 and the post office closed April 25.

However, the circumstances regarding the closure have been conflicting.

Tyrone Jue, a spokesman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, said the city did not receive a response from the Postal Service about renewing the lease so they decided to turn the building into a "network operations center."

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Gus Ruiz, however, said the Postal Service did indeed "reach out for a lease extension."
