The Summerville Union High School District broke ground on its multi-million dollar stadium project on Monday.
The project is behind schedule and over its estimated budget, but district and county education authorities said the project was a culmination of the vision of the community and a step into a new era for Summerville High.
The project - a new field, track and bleachers and snack shack renovation - is the first with money from the district's $8 million Measure H passed in 2012.
Summerville High School Foundation President Jessi Leveroos spoke at the ceremony and said, "We're finally seeing the result of a vision we've had for over 10 years."
She recounted that the foundationwas formed in 2003, largely thanks to a donation from Robin Wainwright, who "had a special place in his heart for track and field."
