Passes reopen over highways 4 and 108

Sonora and Ebbetts passes have re-opened.

Sonora Pass over Highway 108 and Ebbetts Pass over Highway 4 reopened Tuesday after a spring snowstorm forced their closure on April 21.

They had opened April 18 - the earliest in many years due to low amounts of snow, according to Caltrans.

It was the earliest opening for Sonora Pass since April 13, 1994, and Ebbetts Pass since April 15, 2008. Both passes were temporarily closed again those years due to spring storms.

Federal road crews are still working to open Tioga Pass through Yosemite National Park. It has yet to open this season.
