DA: Jealousy motive in killing

By Mike Morris / The Union Democrat

A Burson woman accused of killing her husband in October said she "shot him until the bullets ran out" before she went inside their house and smoked a cigarette, a detective testified Monday in Calaveras County Superior Court.

Charity Ford will stand trial for the murder of 52-year-old Randolph Ford, Calaveras County Superior Court Judge John Martin ruled at her Monday afternoon preliminary hearing.

Wearing an orange jumpsuit, Ford attended the hearing with her Valley Springs attorney Brian Chavez-Ochoa.

Ford, 56, also faces charges of attempted murder and child cruelty stemming from the incident on Oct. 16.

Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputy Lucas Mack testified he was dispatched to Ford's Amos Lane home that evening, where he found Randolph Ford lying face down in the driveway.

When asked if he spoke with Charity Ford that night, Mack testified, "she made a spontaneous statement, 'my husband is cheating on me.' "
