Bocce ball courts planned for Murphys

By Mike Morris / The Union Democrat

Two bocce ball courts are the latest addition planned for the Murphys Community Park complex.

The plans were approved last week by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors.

The Murphys Community Club operates the park in downtown Murphys and leases the property from the county. The club has partnered with the Angels-Murphys Rotary Club to create two bocce courts across Algiers Street from the park's restrooms and adjacent to the Murphys Hotel parking lot.

"Now that we have board approval, we are in fundraising mode," said Rotarian Bert Lucas.

The goal is to have the courts installed this summer along with new landscaping. Organizers are seeking contributions from other community groups and area contractors.
