A group of Mother Lode home-school students will compete in a Bay Area engineering challenge this weekend.
Tuolumne Tech, a club comprised of the students and their parents, will enter four groups into "The Tech Challenge" in San Jose.
The event is hosted by The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. It challenges youths to create their own engineered machines to complete a goal within three minutes. About 100 kids will participate in the event.
This year, kids must make a machine that moves water with wind power.
About 15 students - either privately home-schooled or through charter schools including Gold Rush and Cornerstone Family Christian - have formed four teams.
