Vendors at fairgrounds for weekend

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat

This weekend is the 33rd annual Home and Garden Show - one of the biggest and most popular free events at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora.

The annual springtime event has more than 100 booths this year, including 30 new exhibitors, which cover all things home and garden, from deck products to kitchen appliances to planter boxes. The majority of vendors are from the Mother Lode.

The show is 25 percent bigger this year than last year, according to show coordinator Peggy Pietrowicz. More than 8,000 visitors are expected.

It's clear that the Mother Lode's economy is recovering, Pietrowicz said, based on the amount and energy of vendors.

"It's a broad range of new vendors and all the old favorites," she said.
