Sonora High stadium delayed

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat

Sonora Union High School District's bond projects will not begin on time and the delay could hinder the football season.

School officials say the project is stalled as the Division of the State Architect reviews the project plans. The division must approve all school projects.

Sonora High's plans were submitted in December and were hoped to be back by the end of March for construction to begin on March 31, said Superintendent Mike McCoy.

The district has arranged for all its football games - in a worst-case scenario - to be away games, said McCoy. He added that not all games will have to be away, but more than usual will be, and there is a"strong possibility" they all will be.

The district has arrangements with Bret Harte Union High School and Calaveras Unified School districts to use their facilities for the games.
