Redone Sonora DMV reopens

Chris Caskey, The Union Democrat /

Sonora's Department of Motor Vehicles office will re-open Wednesday with a few upgrades after being closed for almost two months.

The office at 885 Morning Star Drive will reopen with a verbal testing room for customers who request or require verbal tests. Work on the 4,712-square-foot building also included installing new floors and an interior paint job.

The office, which sees about 139 transactions every day, has been closed since Feb. 4 while crews worked the building.

Customers were redirected to offices in San Andreas, Jackson and Stockton.

The DMV regularly closes field offices for maintenance, infrastructure improvements, equipment upgrades and system overhauls.

The Sonora office employs 11 people.
