Cal Fair: Plan now for May entries

By Mike Morris / The Union Democrat

This year's Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee will be "Fun for the Whole Herd."

As this year's theme implies, the Calaveras County Fairgrounds - also known as Frogtown - will be hopping Thursday through Sunday, May 15 to 18.

In addition to two new rides on the midway, nightly entertainment will include the Miss Calaveras Scholarship Pageant on Thursday, a Johnny Cash tribute artist on Friday and a professional rodeo and Journey tribute band on Saturday.

The final day of the fair will feature the junior livestock auction, destruction derby and International Frog Jump Finals.

"Our community really wanted a rodeo, so we decided to bring the rodeo back," said Laurie Giannini, fair manager. "Rodeos and fairs just kind of fit together."
