Cameras may decide court case

Sonora police are arming themselves with technology to document their actions using body worn cameras.

These "on-officer recording systems" are small, pager-sized cameras that clip onto the officer's uniform.

A recent police video was used last week in Tuolumne County Superior Court at a hearing for Jeremy Jason King, 33, of Visalia, formerly of Twain Harte. He is charged with felony assault and trying to take an officer's firearm, and misdemeanor resisting arrest. If convicted, King could face more than eight years in prison.

The incident occurred on March 14 at St. Patrick's Church on Jackson Street.

Sonora Police Officer Ryan Webb, who was wearing one of the department's four cameras, was the first to respond.
