TH Lake reopens after sewer spill

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat /

Twain Harte Lake reopened over the weekend following a sewage leak upstream of the popular summer swimming spot last week that forced its closure.

Water quality tests showed samples didn't contain enough bacteria to require closure, according to Twain Harte Community Services District officials.

The March 10 leak from a district sewer line spilled 78 gallons of sewage into a watershed above the lake.

Tree roots blocked the pipe, district officials said.

More than 450 gallons of sewage leaked out of a manhole as a result. Of that, 375 gallons was picked up on land before reaching the creek.
