Sewer spill closes TH Lake

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat /

Twain Harte Lake is closed due to a sewage leak.

A neighborhood pipe was found to be blocked on Monday night. Sewage leaked out of a manhole between a home and a creek, according to Tom Trott, Twain Harte Community Services District general manager.

About 452 gallons of sewage came out of the manhole and about 374 gallons were recovered on land, according to analysis by Trott's crew on Wednesday.

That means 78 gallons may have reached a tributary that leads to the lake and, eventually, becomes Sullivan Creek.

Initial lake tests were positive for the E. coli bacteria, but to what degree is not yet known, Trott said. A lab is analyzing the samples now for more detail. Results are expected today.
