Many uncontested races in Tuolumne

Chris Caskey, The Union Democrat /

Tuolumne County will have more uncontested than contested races among the local positions on this June's primary election ballot, according to the county Elections Office filings.

In five of the six local races with their candidates set, an incumbent is not facing a challenger.

District 3 Supervisor Evan Royce, Auditor-Controller Deborah Bautista, Sheriff Jim Mele, Judge Kate Powell Segerstrom and Judge James Boscoe all stand unopposed as the only people to complete the nomination process by March 7, the deadline for local races with incumbents.

Would-be candidates for the remaining local races - including two Sonora City Council seats, district attorney, treasurer-tax collector, assessor recorder and superintendent of county schools - have through Wednesday to complete their paperwork and get onthe June ballot.

Shelley Piech is on the ballot for treasurer-tax collector, Laura Leslie Krieg has done so for district attorney, Matt Hawkins has for City Council and Michael Dambacher has for assessor-recorder, according to the elections office.
