Art Moore takes on McClintock in D4 race

By Alex MacLean / The Union Democrat

Republican Art Moore formally announced his candidacy Friday for the 4th Congressional District of California, which includes Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, against incumbent Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Granite Bay.

Moore, of Roseville, is a businessman and major in the Army National Guard, according to his campaign website. He graduated as class valedictorian from Placer High School and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Following the terrorist attacks against the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, Moore was deployed to Iraq, where he led a 200-soldier infantry company and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He was later deployed to lead an 800-soldier battalion in support of the Iraq War Surge of 2007.

Moore has worked as abusiness executive in the building products industry and as a management consultant for federal government clients in the U.S. Intelligence Community, according to a biography on his website.

Moore's website states that he's running on a platform of "responsible fiscal management, a strong national defense and protection of individual liberties" and would like to "work past gridlock, create jobs and keep our promises to America's veterans and seniors."
