Sonora police are investigating what they are describing as a suspicious death on Mono Way today.

According to the Sonora Police Department, a report was made at approximately 11:15 a.m. of a person down inside a buinsess on Mono Way above Barretta Street. Upon arrival, police located a body inside the shop.

Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson said the man appeared to be "deceased through some type of trauma to his body," though he would not say whether a weapon was used or what type. Stinson described the incident as a "suspicious death."

Sonora police have been on the scene much of the day today, and Stinson said the state Department of Justice would pick up the full investigation this afternoon. The investigation has affected traffic on Mono Way, with officials directing vehicles away from the scene.

Law enforcement is expected to stay on the scene for much of the day.
