Board pres. Ian Morcott storms out

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat

Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District Board President Ian Morcott nearly resigned Wednesday night after taking flack for the district's decision to fire volleyball coach Trisha Ferguson.

Morcott stormed out of the meeting, saying "You can find yourselves a new board president," but later recanted.

After the meeting, he contacted administration and said he did not actually wish to resign, but was just frustrated with the accusations thrown at the board.

Morcott's meltdown came after several audience members blasted the board and district administration for firing Trisha Ferguson, the district's girls' basketball and volleyball coach, a few weeks ago, after she made an inappropriate comment after a basketball game.

A few months ago, the board was criticized by parents for retaining the employment of former Tenaya Principal Susan Moffitt, who was ultimately placed on leave in December.
