Hatler evictions delayed

Chris Caskey, The Union Democrat /

Dozens of Jamestown residents threatened with eviction because their landlord failed to pay their sewer bills have gotten a small reprieve.

A Jamestown Sanitary District representative said Monday that Stewart Hatler has been given about two more weeks to pay $38,000 in sewer bills he owes on more than a dozen properties dating back years.

Hatler's new payment deadline is 2 p.m. Feb. 28. It had been Feb. 12.

District Finance Officer and General Manager Patricia Ingalls said the district has heard from Hatler that he plans to request a hearing with the Jamestown Sanitary District Board of Directors. If that happens, Ingalls said the board will schedule a special meeting to handle the issue.

The sewer-bill problem effects as many as 40 people living in 15 units around Seventh Street, Ninth Avenue and Maple Alley.
