PUBLIC MEETING: Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, 9 a.m. Tuesday, Board Chambers, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas.

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday is expected to hire an interim public works director and a new planning director.

Michael Miller, who served as interim public works director from 2007 to 2009, will replace former public works director Tom Garcia, who resigned last month.

According to his contract, Miller will be paid $68.76 per hour and be assigned a department vehicle for "official and take-home use." However, he will not receive health insurance, retirement benefits or paid vacation.

Miller's employment agreement is retroactive to Feb. 3. His employment is intended to be temporary, pending the recruitment and appointment of a permanent public works director.

The contract for Peter Maurer, the county's new planning director, includes an annual salary of $111,987. His first day on the job will be March 3.

Maurer has worked for the past 28 years in El Dorado County, where he served twice as acting planning director.

He replaces former planning director Rebecca Willis, who resigned late last summer.
