Heading up to Yosemite National Park over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend is usually a bit of an arduous task for the O'Connells.
The San Luis Obispo-area family would typically have to pack winter gear, deal with the tire chains on their RV and leave the bikes at home.
But that's not true this year, which is why - on a whim - they headed up the hill over the weekend.
"We thought, you know what? Let's do it," Jim O'Connell said while helping his son, Ryan, unload their bikes before an afternoon ride in the iconic Yosemite Valley. "We came for the weather."
The O'Connells were among the many tourists over the weekend who made the most of drought conditions by heading to the high country. Park admission was also free on Monday in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
