DMV detour announced

Chris Caskey, The Union Democrat /

The Sonora DMV office at 885 Morning Star Drive will close at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 and remain closed until April 12 for renovations.

Department of Motor Vehicles representatives said last week that customers are being, and will continue to be, redirected to nearby offices.

The closest DMV offices include one on Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas, 201 Clinton Road in Jackson, and 55 S. Lincoln St. in Stockton.

The department offers online services at www.dmv.ca.gov that include registration and license renewal, personalized license plates, change of address and payments.

Some transactions can also be done over the phone by calling 800-777–0133.

According to the DMV, the department regularly closes field offices for maintenance, infrastructure improvements, equipment upgrades and system overhauls. Gonzales stated that the Sonora office needs new flooring and paint, and installation of a new testing room.

The office was built in 1994.
