Calaveras leaders set goals meeting

PUBLIC MEETING: Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sequoia Room, Health and Human Services Building, 509 E. St. Charles St., San Andreas.

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss ideas and goals with a professional facilitator.

The "facilitated board strategic workshop" will be led by Bill Chiat, dean at the California State Association of Counties' Institute for Excellence in County Government.

The idea of the workshop came from a goal-setting study session held by the board in December, said Supervisor Debbie Ponte.

Ponte, whose district includes Angels Camp and Copperopolis, said she supports having a "neutral, professional facilitator" meet with the board to identify common goals and long-range plans.

"It's talking about where the county is today and where we want to go in the future," she said.

Ponte, along with supervisors Cliff Edson and Chris Wright, has just completed her first year in office as county supervisor. She said it's important to take each supervisors' individual goals for their districts and see how they can connect to the county as a whole.

"We need some commonality," Ponte said.

No action will be taken by the board during Tuesday's workshop. Any "action items" arising from the discussion will be placed on the agenda of a future meeting, county staff said.

The board's first regular meeting of the year is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14.
