Police ID victim in Stockton homicide

A Stockton man whose body was found dismembered Thursday in Groveland has been identified by Stockton police as Michael Shane Jones.

Jones, 48, lived at the same house on the 4500 block of Mist Trail Drive, in the Weston Ranch area of Stockton, where a possible homicide scene was discovered Thursday, according to Stockton police.

Bryan Cook, 38, a co-tenant at the Mist Trail Drive residence, was

arrested on suspicion of homicide later that day after Tuolumne County

Sheriff's detectives located him at a campsite in Groveland.

A human torso was found burning in the

campfire and dismembered body parts in the trunk of Cook's car, Stockton police said.

Valentina Paz, 49, who also lived at

the Stockton residence with Cook and Jones, was located for questioning

late Friday night. She was arrested on suspicon of homicide after an

interview with Stockton police detectives.

Both suspects were booked into San Joaquin County Jail.
