A dance studio is being built adjacent to Sonora's historic Dome campus for the Kids Art Studies Academy through the Tuolumne County Arts Alliance.
Construction began about a week ago in the KASA building at 251 B Barretta St., installing mirrors and preparing for a spring-floored dance floor to open up the possibilities of arts teaching at KASA, according to Connie O'Connor, executive director of the Arts Alliance.
"It was always the vision to make the most multi-functional space possible for arts education," O'Connor said. The dance studio is the newest addition to that.
Now, likely as early as January or February - when construction is aimed to finish - classes in ballroom, ballet and tap may begin. Eventually, yoga, tai chi and Zumba classes will be possible.
The dance studio will take up the west half of the KASA building, but will still be usable for other art, including music. Music classes are also planned this spring.
The class is for students 12 to 18 (younger with instructor approval) and will run 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 14 to 30. It costs $100. The enrollment deadline, including paid fees, is Monday.
The Tuolumne County Arts Alliance rescheduled a holiday party due to early December's low snowfall.
Its "Twelfth Day of Christmas" party will be held 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at 251 Barretta St.
