Union Democrat staff

Multiple people were sent to the hospital this morning after a rollover accident at the intersection of Shaws Flat Road and Highway 49 in Columbia.

Emergency officials responded at approximately 10:52 a.m. to the multiple vehicle accident, and traffic at the busy intersection was still backed up as of 11:20 a.m. At the scene, a white car that appeared to be hatchback or wagon was upside down in a ditch and a sport-utility vehicle on the road was damaged in the frontend from an impact.

Few details were available at the scene, but emergency crews were tending to at least three injured people on the side of the road with the California Highway Patrol, Columbia Fire Department and Sonora Fire Department among the responders on the scene.
