Fire prompts 108 closure

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat /

Highway 108 has been closed south of Jamestown for fire crews to put out a structure and wildland fire across from Bell Mooney Road. A structure fire was reported about 4:45 p.m. in a long-abondoned home across from Bell Mooney Road, according to Mike Spear, spokesman for Cal Fire and Tuolumne County Fire Department.

It spread to nearby vegetation and consumed about two acres before being contained about 5:40 p.m.

The structure fire was still being contained as of 5:40 p.m. and Highway 108 was still closed both directions with a detour in place.

The cause of the fire was still unknown.
