Sonora police officers apprehended a man after a short foot chase following alleged threats he made to burn an occupied bus.

Jay Christopher Whittle, 30, of Mi-Wuk Village, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of resisting an officer at 2:27 p.m. at the Crossroads Shopping Center on the 1100 block of Sanguinetti Road.

Whittle reportedly made threats to a bus driver to burn the bus if he didn't get free transportation to Tuolumne about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police confronted him at a bus stop in front of a business on the 1100 block of Sanguinetti Road.

Whittle ran away when being questioned and police caught him a block away inside a back store room of another business, according to a statement released today by the Sonora Police Department.

Whittle was discovered to have a felony warrant for numerous felonies, police said.
