A new threat of lightning

Austen Thibault, The Union Democrat

National Weather Service forecasters predict a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday in the higher elevations of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.

Twain Harte and towns above it along the Highway 108 corridor will see a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday - mostly after 2 p.m. and before 11 p.m.

Arnold and areas farther east along the Highway 4 corridor will see the same forecast, except slated to start earlier at 11 a.m.

Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, but more is possible under thunderstorms.

Winds are expected to blow east in the daytime, mostly between 5 and 10 mph. AboveDorington in Calaveras County and above Pinecrest in Tuolumne County, winds could gust as high as 21 mph.

Winds are expected to blow southwest at night at about 5 to 8 mph.

High temperatures are expected in the mid- to upper 80s through the week, lowering Saturday to the low 80s and expected to dip Sunday into the high 70s.

Wednesday through Sunday are forecast sunny and clear, besides some minimal cloud cover Friday through Saturday night.
