Rim Fire: New evacuation advisory

Union Democrat staff

The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office is again urging people staying in the Unit 12 area of Pine Mountain Lake to evacuate.

The voluntary-evacuation notice was issued about 4:50 p.m.

Streets where people are urged to leave include:

• Hilllcroft, Yorkshire, Lakespur, Clements, Cliffton Way, Mule Court, Hemlock, Woodside Way, Owl Court, Iris Court, Jimmersal Way, and Beaver Court.

Residents in the same area were urged yesterday to leave their homes. Many didn't, said Sheriff's spokesman Scott Johnson.

A new fire flareup on the subdivision side of the fire containment line prompted the notice.

Other, earlier voluntary-evacuation notices, most around the Buck Meadows area, still hold.

The fire, according to Forest Service officials, has grown in all directions today. A better read on its spread won't be available until tomorrow morning, after overnight aerial infrared photos are assessed.

This morning, the fire was estimated at more than 53,000 acres.
