A Sonora man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse Wednesday after his 4-month-old son was hospitalized over the weekend, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

About 6 p.m. Saturday, Sheriff's Office dispatchers received a 911 call that the infant was not breathing and was turning blue.

An ambulance was dispatched, and the boy was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.

While trying to stabilize the infant, hospital staff discovered bleeding in the brain.

Hospital staff suspected child abuse was the cause of the injuries and contacted the Sheriff's Office.

The baby was transported to Oakland Children's Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

A Sheriff's deputy responded to the hospital and spoke with parents and medical staff. Sheriff's detectives responded for further investigation.

After days of interviews and consulting with medical personnel, the baby's father, Shaheed Jameel Hassan Williams, 25, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a child resulting in a coma or paralysis. He was booked into Tuolumne County Jail.
