April showers might continue to bring the Mother Lode closer to comfortable precipitation levels, starting Wednesday night.

Wednesday night through Monday have chances of rain in the of foothills and snow at elevations above 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS has issued a "Special Weather Statement"to the Mother Lode and other foothill areas warning of increased driving dangers and travel delays due to slick roads, snow and gusty winds.

Wednesday night has a 20 percent chance of rain; showers are likely Thursday with a 60 to 79 percent chance; Friday has a 50 percent chance; Saturday has only a slight chance of rain; and Sunday and Monday have 30 to 59 percent chances.

Rainfall is expected to be light. Snow levels are predicted to start from 7,000 to 8,000 feet Thursday and drop to 6,000 to 7,000 feet by Friday morning.

Temperatures should remain in the high- to mid-60s during the day to mid- to low-40s at night all week in Sonora and Angels Camp.

These April showers come following the California Department of Water Resources' announcement Thursday that its annual March snow survey found "dramatically" dry conditions."

The department found the water content of the state's snowpack at 52 percent of normal.

The statement also recalled that January and February were record dry months for much of the state and this 52 percent measurement is "significant because this is the time of year the snowpack is usually at its peak."

The statement explained that "reservoir storage will meet much of the state's water demand this year, but successive dry years would create drought conditions in some areas."
