San Andreas fire

Lenore Rutherford, The Union Democrat

A two-story structure and a shop on Leonard Court in San Andreas were destroyed in a fire reported at 9:40 a.m. Saturday with smoke that could be seen for miles.

"When we got there it was fully involved up to the roof," Fire Chief Don Young of the San Andreas Fire Protection District said. "After that, it's just defensive work. It was a total loss."

Information was not immediately available about who was in the structure, but no injuries were reported. Personnel from Cal Fire responded along with the following fire protection districts: San Andreas, Calaveras County, Altaville-Melones, Mokelumne Hill and Central Fire.
